The right tool for the job

Wessex Demolition have recently demolished the old Esso petrol station in Chandler’s Ford. The confined space of a working car dealer forecourt and potential danger of explosions required that the underground fuel tanks be taken out using a shear rather than hot cut methods. The trusty MBI SH180 Shear was put to good use puncturing, folding and cutting out multiple 12mm folded steel tank sections from the excavated ground.

Excavator operator Luke from Wessex said ‘ The SH180 Shear was just the right size for the 18 ton Volvo to work within the confined space . Whilst the steel gauge is well below the cutting capabilities of the SH180, the job required accurate manipulation and handling in order to turn, fold and cut the material out’.

Prior to the tanks being cut out, the concrete casing was removed using an Inmalo supplied Montabert breaker.
